Normally all telecommunication market players, except customers, are heavily focused on number portability from the beginning of service implementation, but in general the population know nothing about this service’s possibilities.
A lot of questions arise in a customer’s head with regard to increasing awareness of number portability services. These questions cover different items and sound like this:
- Should I visit my present operator first and cancel my contract?
- What about penalties for the early termination of my existing contract?
- Will I lose service and how long does it take?
- How much will the change in operator change cost?
- How do my relatives and friends find out that I’m on the new network?
- How do they call my new network and for what price?
- Can I keep the full number?
- What happens to my additional services (VAS, voicemail and SMS (in cases of mobile number portability)?

Number portability might become an opportunity not the threat if you pay enough attention to marketing.
